55+ Tech Chat and Social Group

We are a 55+ group interested in learning about technology and how it plays a part in our lives.

Our primary goal is to provide a comfortable social setting where we can talk about a variety of technical topics from artificial intelligence to the latest scams you should be aware of, to purchasing tips for seniors on buying new equipment whether it be a smart- phone, laptop, tablet or desktop computer.

Our members can also provide assistance and support with your technology problems and will be pleased to answer your questions. Your level of engagement is as much as you want it to be from just listening, participating in group discussions, doing researching and presenting.

We enjoy a 20 minute coffee break where the discussions cover everything under sun. It’s a cohesive, welcoming group.

Don’t be afraid of technology! Let’s understand it together!

How to Use Multiple Desktops to Increase Your Productivity

Everyone’s been there. You are on you computer, whether it be your laptop or desktop, and you have soooo.. many tabs/windows on your browser or applications open on a whole host of topics that you can’t keep track of them all. That hurts productivity!

Wouldn’t it be great to be able to have multiple desktops so you can organize your “topics or themes” together? Imagine if you will, if you can have many desktops to organize your browser/applications for social communication (e.g. FaceBook, Email, etc.), another desktop for researching cooking recipes, a desktop for finding information on installing a toilet…well…I think you get the idea.

Here is a graphic showing multiple desktops on Windows 11.

With all new modern operating systems for Macintosh, Windows, ChromeOS and Linux, they each have a feature that enables “multiple desktops”. While each implementation has its own features, navigation and “quirks”, they all work reasonably well. It can take a few days to master the multiple desktop feature but its a small amount of effort to curtail the insanity of having to deal with excessive browser tabs and application windows on a single desktop!

Search for instructional videos on YouTube by using “Using Multiple Desktops on Your Chromebook.” or whatever computer or operating system you are using.
